Fear of the unknown is the number one concern of women in labor. Fear causes the production and release of stress hormones, which can work against the hormones that help move labor forward. By increasing your understanding of the process of labor, you will learn many coping skills, be less fearful and will be better prepared for the experience. Labor partners and fathers will learn how important they are in making this a positive birth experience, what to expect during labor and birth and how they can help the laboring woman to stay as comfortable as possible.
